Boozy hot chocolates. Bring in the holidays the right way!
This recipe is also fantastic for regular old hot chocolate. Try adding things like cinnamon, flavored syrups, anything that strikes your fancy.
Single serving boozy hot chocolates:
- 2 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp cocoa powder
- a very small dash of salt
Mix dry ingredients together in a coffee mug. Add about 2 Tbsp of cold milk (or cold soy milk, for us lactards out there!) and mix together. This is done best by spinning a small whisk between the palms of your hand. One smooth, fill the mug 3/4 of the way with your milk of choice. Microwave for 1 minute, whisk again. Microwave 1 more minute, then add 1 or 2 shots of peppermint schnapps and a dash of vanilla, mix, and enjoy!
For 4 1-cup servings (aka enough for 2 real servings) mix 1/3 cup water in a saucepan with 1/2 cup sugar and 1/4 cup cocoa and a dash of salt. Bring mixture to a boil, mixing constantly, and boil for 1 minute until sugar is dissolved. Turn heat to medium low, add 4 cups of milk and a dash of vanilla and heat through. Don’t boil the milk! Finish with the delicious schnapps, if you wish!
If I cared much about presentation when drinking these late at night with my roommate, they would probably look something like the photo above. The heat of the hot chocolate plus the heat from the schnapps contrasts with the cooling of the peppermint. The ultimate warming winter treat!
